URSM Commemorates 68th Foundation
The campus fete started with the celebration of a thanksgiving mass led by Fr. Bienvenido M. Guevarra, Parish Priest of Morong at the Eulogio Amang Rodriguez Tanghalang Sining (EARTS).
The affair was highlighted with a Commemorative Program. Dr. Marilou C. Pantaleon, Dean, College of Education and Overall Chair of the celebration, welcomed the participants. She recalled the humble beginnings and remembered the pioneer teachers and former administrators of the school.
Dr. Marita R. Canapi, URS President, honored the pioneers of the school 68 years ago. She cited that the school has evolved to its present status as a distinct part of the University. She recognized the efforts of the former administrators and teachers in establishing a citadel of learning for the people of Rizal.
Dr. Demetria A. San Juan, Chancellor, Cluster II , introduced the Commemorative speaker who was recently awarded as Oustanding Professional Teacher granted by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).
Dr. Avelina Teston Llagas remembered the evolution of Morong High School, now URS Morong. She reminisced her momentous experiences as head teacher of English and Principal of the School. Shre recalled also the transformation of the school from a provincial high school to a national high school to a national comprehensive high school and to a technological and polytechnic institute when she was the School Superintendent. She encouraged the faculty members and staff to cooperate in the progressive efforts of the University towards the attainment of its avowed mission. She challenged everyone to grow professionally to keep pace with the emerging trends in education.
Dr. Llagas emphasized the need to build institutional culture through faculty development, alumni involvement, parents and community involvement and students accountability.
President Marita R. Canapi inducted into the office the Officers of Parent-Teacher Association Alumni and Student Organization who are considered partners in quality assurance.
Prof. Jocelyn S. San Juan, Academic Coordinator, URS Morong Laboratory School, posed some challenges to the teachers, parents and alumni who have witnessed the historical development of the institution to continue their support to its programs and projects for the welfare of the youth. She further recognized the efforts of the pioneers of Morong High School and committed for revitalized educational endeavors through the utilization of modern technology without sacrificing enhancement of worthy Filipino values.
